On our way to Kandy, we passed the Kadugannawa Dawson Tower, which was built to commemorate Captain Dawson, who built the Colombo-Kandy Road. Once you arrived at the Peradeniya Gardens, the view is spectacular. I have never seen so much beauty in one place. You have to purchase tickets from the ticket counter, which is locals Rs 50 ad Foreign visiters Rs 1,100.
The day we went unfortunately it rained almost for 2 hours. But we got to see another side of the whole experience. The Foreigner were given umbrellas and rain courts so that the garden can be admired even through the rain. They also had a mobile vehicle where they charge Rs 1000 per hour and 7 people can travel in it. So we saw many families using this vehicle specially during rainy weather.
There are close to 4000 species of trees and plants in this location. It is a very educational experience for both young and old.
The best know attraction of the garden is the orchid House, which houses more than 300 varieties of exquisite orchids. A spice garden gives you a first hand introduction to the trees and plants used for the traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Mahaweli river, Sri Lanka's longest river surrounding this garden gives an added beauty to this garden. It wont be wrong to say that this garden is one of it's best kind in the world and the best in Asia.

This was my first visit to the park, and i was really impressed, I couldnt beleive i was in a part of Sri Lanka. Since it was a bit of an overcast day there was not much sun & it was an enjoyable walk, looking at many old huge trees, beautiful flowers, etc. There is also a very open space, where there were lots of familes have a nice day.
